About Me!

I am a Family Nurse Practitioner-Board Certified and a Certified Lactation Counselor. I have nearly 20 years experience in nursing and 15 years of being a Family Nurse Practitioner.

While pursuing my first degree in nutrition and dietetics I was introduced to the amazing nutritional benefits of breastfeeding.  After having a baby I learned the beauty and complexity of breastfeeding.

My sister (Emily Barnes) and I started the journey of becoming International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs nearly 10 years ago. I took the classes, but did not immediately pursue the IBCLC credential until 2023. My certification will be active in December after results are posted. My desire is to treat moms (parents) and babies in an inclusive in-office environment where we can address both the mother’s and baby’s needs.

I can treat things such as clogged ducts, mastitis, thrush, over supply, and low milk supply. I can also help manage relevant diseases that can affect lactation such as; diabetes, thyroid disease, PCOS, anemia etc.

I screen all my patients for post-partum depression and ensure they are mentally strong, as well as physically strong. I hope to eventually have a post partum counselor in the office with us in the future.

My Mission

As a Family Nurse Practitioner-Board Certified and Certified Lactation Counselor with nearly 20 years of nursing experience, my mission is to provide inclusive, compassionate care to both mothers and babies. Inspired by the nutritional benefits of breastfeeding and personal experience, I pursued becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.

I am dedicated to treating various lactation challenges and managing related health conditions, while also supporting mental health through postpartum depression screening and aspiring to integrate a postpartum counselor into our practice.
